SPIN Live 2012

With over 400 people in attendance, SPIN Live provided an opportunity to listen to the remarkable voices of our very own SPIN talent singing from their hearts while sharing their gift of music with an enthusiastic audience.  It was also a chance to enjoy great food and a fun night with friends and family while giving back to the SPIN community by participating in our silent and penny auction.

With the generosity of many SPIN departments and members from our community we had over one hundred baskets created and donated to the event.  At the end of the evening many people walked away juggling baskets and wearing smiles from ear to ear.

This sold out event raised approximately $15,000 in vital funds needed for SPIN programs. But more than anything, it was an opportunity to raise awareness and to celebrate the incredible talent of people with and without disabilities in our midst.

Thank you to everyone who made this “good” night so much more!

SPIN Choir Sings at Camden Riversharks

The singing sensations of the SPIN Choir shined bright on Wednesday, July 6th as they sang the National Anthem at Campbell's Stadium, home of the Camden Riversharks baseball team in Camden, NJ.

After weeks of practice, the 25 choir members confidently lined the field and belted out a heart-felt performance of the National Anthem. This performance won a standing ovation from many in the stands.

An over whelming feeling of pride filled the field as the choir shared high-fives with each other - and with some of the Riversharks players! Willie Hurok, a long time choir member stated, "We did great!" These sentiments were shared by many at the ballpark. One onlooker stated, "You guys were awesome! You hit it out of the park!"

Congratulations to the very talented members of the SPIN Choir on this big accomplishment. You truly made the SPIN family proud! We look forward to many more "homerun" performances!

The SPIN Choir Performs in the Capitol Rotunda in Harrisburg

On Monday, December 13th, a self-selected group of our tremendously talented SPIN choir performed at the Holiday Reception hosted by Representative Dennis O'Brien and the Joint House and Senate Autism Caucus. Our choir was the main act, performing in front of the stunning 21 foot Christmas tree in the Rotunda. It was a beautiful setting for a wonderful evening. Some 100 people gathered for the event including noteworthy leaders in state government such as Nina Wall-Cote, Director of the Bureau of Autism along with House and Senate leaders. Judy Dotzman and Kathy Brown McHale from SPIN participated in the event in support of the choir.

Introducing the choir was none other than our hometown hero, Representative O'Brien. At the request of the Honorable O'Brien the choir performed their signature song, which features Michelle Kornegay's amazing vocals, Rent's "Seasons of Love" to kick off their set. The audience showed their appreciation as they clapped their way through the chorus that speaks to measuring your life through the love you give. The choir sang classics such as, "It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas" and a rock version of "Deck the Halls" highlighting the hard rock style of Ray Marcucci. Other highlights of the performance featured the dance moves of Sheila Cole, the smooth expressiveness of Willie Hurok, Carole Richardson's incredible smile and Mike Brubaker's talent for never missing a beat. Bill McKenty is always a star as he showcases his rap style with Michelle in the choir's rendition of "Joyful, Joyful". Adding depth to the choir's beautiful sound were Katie Clancy and of course, Glenn Kornegay. The audience gave the choir a standing ovation and shared their enthusiasm for the performance with those of us lucky enough to be present for this event.

After their performance, our choir networked with government leaders who invariably came away learning more about how talented and capable people can become with the right support. The SPIN Choir truly demonstrates what is possible when people come together for something they love, in this case music and performance, and work hard to bring out the talents in everyone. To watch a performance of the SPIN choir is to know and see true joy and love in the face of each person. Our choir brings us honor and pride as they step out to showcase the wonder that comes from believing in people.

Appreciation Gala 2010

The fourth annual SPIN Appreciation Gala was held on December 3, 2010 at the Emerald Room in Northeast Philadelphia to celebrate all the hard work, progress, and accomplishments over the past year. A much deserved celebration at the end of our busy year, the Gala was a chance for SPIN employees and members to connect and see one another in a different atmosphere.

Employees of the month, Teams of the Quarter, and the Excellence in Leadership Recipient were honored during a short ceremony. Aft er enjoying the buff et dinner, dessert, and drinks, everyone crowded the dance fl oor and “boogied down” until the last song was played. Many didn’t want the night to end!

Look out for next year’s Gala and if you haven’t done so already, it’s not to late to become a SPIN member. Join online at www.spininc.org.

SPIN's 3rd Annual Stroll in the Park

As promised, Sunday, April 5th turned out to be a beautiful sunny spring day. Over 300 people came out to participate in this year’s 3rd Annual Stroll in the Park hosted on the grounds of Fairmount Park at Pennypack on the Delaware.
