Debra Ann Geissel
Director, Professional Development

An education isn’t how much you’ve committed to memory or how much
you know. It’s being able to differentiate between what you know and don’t know.
It is knowing where to find what you need to know and it is
knowing how to use the information you get.

-  William Feather

Debra Geissel earned her Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences in 1993 from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Debra continued to pursue her dream to become an educator by earning her Master of Education, with a concentration in Special Education, from Temple University in 1996. She currently holds her Instructional I Teaching Certification and has continued her commitment to life-long learning by attaining an Executive Administration Certification from the University of Pennsylvania in 2003.

Since graduating from Temple University, Debra has learned to live by the aforementioned quotation through working as an educator in the non-profit sector in the Philadelphia area for nearly seventeen years. Specifically, Debra has been an Adjunct Professor at Holy Family University and the Community College of Philadelphia where she had the opportunity to demonstrate her conviction to leading and developing people in academic environments. Her concentrations include a working knowledge of “best practices” in curriculum design and instruction. Her other strengths include performance and skills assessment, public speaking and program development and implementation.

Debra has been the Director of Professional Development at SPIN, an agency that provides services to people with intellectual disabilities and their families, since 1999. This position has afforded her the opportunity to develop her organizational leadership skills by overseeing all training and professional development functions for over 900 employees. Furthermore, her ability to coach and motivate those she leads has proved to be an invaluable compliment to her teaching and presentation skills. She is a confident leader who inspires teamwork and creates high morale among those she leads.
